Kings of Leon, comprised of 3 brothers and their cousin, saw their initial rise to success in a basement. When two of the siblings moved to Nashville, they discovered country music and met songwriter Angelo Pertraglia, who helped the brothers develop their songwriting skills and introduced them to rock-and-roll acts such as The Rolling Stones and The Clash. After receiving a great deal of interest from record labels from their initial efforts, the Followill brothers locked themselves in their basement and “kidnapped” their cousin for a month, and emerged with songs ready for RCA Records.
18 years and many stadiums later and the band has just released their seventh album, “WALLS,” marking a more introverted feel to the band's sound, in particular with songs such as “over” being inspired by alcohol addition. “That song is very personal,” states frontman Caleb Followill, “and to the people involved who know what that song’s about… if you look back on stuff that’s happened years ago, if it still means something you should write about it.”
Names after the band's interest in the Deer Hunter arcade games, our supporting act was formed in 2001 by Bradfort Cox and Moses Archuleta. Self-described “ambient punk” and peculiar from the onset, their full-length 2005 album is unnamed, but managed to find popularity with critics, leading the group to sign with the Kranky label. Featuring warped, distored instrumentation and vocals that range from close, speech-quality, muttering an unintelligible stream of thought to the listener to wide open and echoing, the sound is strange, and somehow euphoric.
